Don’t Let A Distracted Driver Slow You Down

In today’s modern age, there are more distractions than ever. And unfortunately, some people let these distractions overtake them while on the road. That leads to many accidents, with innocent victims.

If you have been the victim of an accident caused by distracted driving, you can seek compensation, with my help. I am attorney Mark Casto and I can help you recover compensation for damage to your vehicle, medical bills incurred, lost wages and other expenses that come with a car accident.

What Types Of Distractions Are Most Common?

There are so many distractions on the road that can cause an accident. Most fall under three general categories:

  • Visual: involving taking eyes off the road
  • Manual: taking hands off the wheel
  • Cognitive: taking the mind off of driving

A few examples of visual distractions can involve reading text messages or even being distracted by passing billboards. Manual distractions are often paired with visual distractions such as texting while driving or using a car’s navigation system. Cognitive distractions are less obvious but just as dangerous. They can involve things as simple as playing music too loudly or daydreaming while driving.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), over 400,000 people were injured in accidents involving distracted drivers in 2019. The CDC also reported that younger and teenage drivers were much more likely to be involved in these accidents and were more prone to participating in distracting activities while driving.

What Laws Are In Place?

The state of Georgia does its best to prevent distracted driver accidents, enacting several laws to prohibit this. This includes a hands-free law that has been in place since 2018. This law made it illegal to have a phone in your hand while driving, including while stopped at a traffic light or stop sign.

This law, and others, are aimed at reducing distracted drivers. However, there is no surefire way to prevent distracted driving-related accidents. I can support and help you after one of these accidents. My priority is helping victims of distracted drivers get what they need to recover.
